LONE RANGER
OK folks. We’ve all heard about the Johnny Depp Lone Ranger movie. And you’ve probably wondered what Johnny is going to look like…Well, here it is.
He was inspired to update Native American Tonto’s look after seeing a painting by the artist Kirby Sattler.
According to Depp; “I looked at the face of this warrior and thought: That’s it. The stripes down the face and across the eyes . . . it seemed to me like you could almost see the separate sections of the individual, if you know what I mean.”
Sorry Johnny, I don’t know what you mean.

What’s up; a white guy playing one of the all time great TV and movie Native American roles? Jay Silverheels should be turning over in his grave.
I though we’ve gotten past the sixties when white guys in makeup played Native American’s. Aren’t there any Native American actors out there?
I sure hope they don’t have Depp come into western towns wearing that war paint. He’ll be shot on sight.
By the way, what tribe does he belong to, the Coo Coo Bird Tribe?
Ishmo, it may not be as bad a you think. This movie may just be so bad that when it comes out Native Americans will be glad one of theirs isn’t starring in it.
Saved as a favorite, I really likе your web site!
Glad you enjoy it.
It does seem odd that Tonto would habitually wear war paint like that.
As I recall, Jay Silverheels played Tonto as a Navajo, or at least wore his hair like one. Michael Horse went with an Apache look. Maybe Depp is playing Tonto as a member of the Lost My Makeup Remover tribe.
I also don’t understand it. Depp looks like a cartoon character. I would think the Native Americans would be up in arms. Instead, he’s been taken into one of the tribes as a member.
I guess pride just doesn’t mean what it used to.
